In Man's Search for Meaning, Viktor Franlk invokes Nietzsche, who suggests that a person who is able to cultivate some purpose in life can suffer through almost any obstacles to fulfilling that purpose. Frankl develops his understanding of this principle through his experiences in the camps. Faced with the shock of unspeakable horror, Frankl and the other prisoners developed a sense of apathy -- a deadening of the emotions - toward their pain, humiliation and suffering. To fill the void, Frankl turned inward. He cultivated an inner life based on his capacity to feel love and give love and to appreciate the simple goodness he could find in life. Seeing that he could value his life even in a concentration camp, his purpose in life became one of being worthy of his sufferings.

Conclusion
How did Frankl come to appreciate this quote:
MP: By cultivating an inner world in reaction to extreme suffering, Frankl was able to find meaning in appreciating the things in his life that were good. He found that the capacity to love and receive love gave his life meaning beyond any suffering he endured.
