Climate Science

The Earth's climate is significantly influenced by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapor, and synthetic fluorinated gases. These gases trap heat in the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and climate change.

permafrost

a lot of frozen remains

global warming is thawing out and is releasing a tom of co2 into the atmosphere

scientist guess that the amount of carbon thawing out of the permafrost will be devastating

cattails release a ton more co2 than other tree litter

Forests

many trees are dying

there is a huge amount of trees that are being lost because of deforestation and forest fires

it is coming from

top forests are becoming more of carbon emitters than of keeping it in

Signs and Symptoms

Ecosystem Changes

Ecological Mismatch

Biodiversity Crisis

Forest Fires
Ocean Changes
Acidification of the Oceans
Ocean Temperature rising(thermal expansion
Rising Temperature corelating with rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere
Extreme Weather Becoming more common
Changes in Wind Patterns and Temperature Patterns

Ice Caps / Glaciers Melting

Factors Affecting Climate

Human Generated GHGs

Humans are adding GHGs to the atmosphere, trapping more heat energy near the surface.

Near Water

Large bodies of water moderate the climate of an area.

Elevation

The higher in altitude you go the colder it is

Relief

The presences or absence of mountain ranges can block air masses or not.

Winds- Prevailing Winds

Prevailing Winds bring cold air from Arctic Regions or Warm Air from Tropical. this can affect many thinf because

Ocean Currents

Warm Ocean Currents carry warm air and affect coastal areas, Cold Ocean Currents carry cold air and affect coastal areas.

Latitude

As you travel further from the equator the sun's rays are more spread out at the poles, so less concentrated sun's energy makes it colder at the poles.

My evaluation of solutions

Include an evaluation of the solutions to climate change. Write a short reflection stating your opinion about the solutions:

Which do you think will be the most effective? What are some of the pros and cons of them? Government (including United Nations), Citizens (including NGOs) and Industry has a responsibilitiy to address these issues- who do you think is doing enough (if anyone) and /or who do you think is not pulling their weight in addressing these issues?

Waste reduction week

https://wrwcanada.com/en

Waste reduction week is during October 17-23, 2022. it helps raise awareness and gives people things to do to help the environment, each day it has something different for people to learn about global warming and climate changer.

Canada's Plan to Reach Net Zero

The Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act, which became law on June 29, 2021, enshrines in legislation Canada’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The Act ensures transparency and accountability as the government works to deliver on its targets. The Act requires public participation and independent advice to guide the Government of Canada’s efforts.

David Suzuki Foundation gives 10 things you can do to take climate action:

for so my 3 top picks on what I would do is:

  1. green your commute, take other ways to get to your destination like walking or biking and if it is a fair way away take a bus or commute.
  2. urge your government to step up and do something for once.
  3. eat climate healthy meals, this can help by removing the factor of large factories which omit a lot of greenhouse gasses, eat some fresh-picked or farmed food as an alternative.

The Greenhouse Effect

Earth's greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere and warm the planet. The main gases responsible for the greenhouse effect include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapour (which all occur naturally), and fluorinated gases (which are synthetic). this is a huge part of climate change and the rise of temperatures.
