Cindy Sherman is a renowned photographer known for her innovative use of self-portraiture to explore themes of social role-playing and sexual stereotypes. She began her career in the arts studying painting, but soon transitioned to photography where she found her true calling.

Why did you choose this photographer?

When we first found Cindy Sherman we were immediately interested because of how much she stood out from the other photographers. as we began to look through her work we enjoyed how creative her work is.

Why are they famous?

She used her own body to portray personas that focused on social role-playing and sexual stereotypes. she is said to be one of the most influential artists in contemporary art

Career

Now
In 2016 Sherman was awarded the Premium Imperial prize in painting, a category which also involves photography.
1990s
as Sherman continued to explore similar styles to the 1980s she also had the opportunity to exhibit Her work in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
1980s
In this time, Sherman moved into colour film and explored a more grotesque and disturbing style to communicate issues such as eating disorders, insanity and death

How Her Career Began

with herself as the model, Cindy took a series of photos in the character of "Everywoman". She later called this collection the Untitled Film Stills. when the collection finally debuted Cindy began to gain status in the New York photography community.

When Sherman was born she lived in Glen Ridge, New Jersey the youngest of five children . However, shortly after Cindy’s birth, family moved to Huntington, Long Island where she spent the rest of her childhood
