July 1916, Battle of Somme
On July 1 1916 the battled of the somme occurred. 733 men died. Some of the men who were killed in action were apart of the french Canadian regiment, 22nd Battalion.

Francis Pegahmagabow (Peggy)
Peggy was one of the most notable
soldiers who was also indigenous.
He helped to fight in the Ypres war.
This war was when germans introduced poison Gas.
Peggy had to witness horrors in the trenches. He saw his men foaming at the mouth.
1914, Women On The Homefront
Women participated in war. Although they were not allowed to enlist as a soldier in the war, they became nurses and ammunition manufacturers.

Canada passed the War Measure Act. This law gave sweeping emergency powers to the federal cabinet.

Canada joined the war sometime in August 1914. At the time Canada was still under British rule. Britain declared war against germany and in turn Canada was forced to join the war. Beforehand Canada had been a peaceful country for over 100 years.
