Parts of Sound

frequency
how often waves occur

Higher frequency sounds (waves that occur more often) produce higher sounds.

Lower frequency sounds (waves that occur less often) produce lower sounds.

amplitude

Amplitude is acoustic energy

Amplitude is intensity

Amplitude is volume

wavelength
distance between waves

How does sound work?

We hear sounds when the vibrating waves enter our ears
These vibrations are called waves

Mechanical vibrations that are able to travel through all forms of matter: gases, liquids, solids, and plasmas.

The vibrating thing causes the space (air) around it to vibrate

The speed of sound is influenced by what it travels through and the factors affecting what is travels through. For example, altitude, humidity and temperature might affect sound waves traveling through the air.

Sound is produced when something vibrates.
