Fascism

Conflict is present everywhere in the world around us. We experience conflict on a daily basis, and it can be minor or major.

Conflict in a story is a struggle between opposing forces. Characters must act to confront those forces and there is where conflict is born. If there is nothing to overcome, there is no story. Conflict in a story creates and drives the plot forward.

Fascism has ideologies rooted in genocide and racial segregation.

In this type of conflict, a character must take on society itself, and not a single person. The character stands at odds with societal norms and realizes the necessity to work against these norms. This is an external conflict.

Racial segregation applies to nationalism

other that being Jewish, having a diffenerc of opinion was also not allowed. This included Christianity. “In Hitler’s eyes Christianity was a religion fit only for slaves... Its teaching, he declared, was a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle of the fittest.” (Alan Bullock “Hitler, A Study in Tyranny”)
When the Nazi party was founded in 1920, Hitler preyed off of middle class fears of communist uprising adn promoted extremely antagonistic and anti Semitic platform that demanded a racially pure Germany

Hitler wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle) - asserting that Germans were a master race, and other ethnicities such as Jews, Slavs, and Gypsies were inferior. In 1934, the SS arrested and murdered hundreds of Hitler’s enemies. They clearly had no regard for human lives and how this would impact the way people looked at them.
Mussolini founded the Fascist Party in 1919. War veterans joined this party too. They were called the Blackshirts who were like a fascist militia. They wreaked havoc and made life miserable for socialists (opposite of fascists) and anyone else who did note abide by the rulings and views on the Fascist party

Fascism requires politics, popular support, and the ongoing destruction of society.

Stalin’s government controlled all newspapers, motion pictures, radio, and other sources of information Many Soviet writers, composers, and other artists faced official censorship. The government also controlled education, from nursery schools through the universities.
Hitler also turned the press, radio, literature, painting, and film into propaganda tools. Books that did not conform to Nazi beleifs were burned in huge bonfires. Churches were forbidden to criticize the Nazis or the government, strikes were banned. School children had to join the Hitler youth groups.
Under Mussolini's rule, democracy was abolished, all political parties except the Fascists parties were outlawed, political opponents were jailed, censorship was instituted, and strikes were outlawed.
When Hitler was appointed as Reich Chancellor, he began using a secret police force to build a system of violent oppression and surveillance to silence descent and to unify the country under one goal - war.

Japanese engineers and technicians began arriving in large numbers to build mines and factories in Nanjing. Japan withdrew from the League of Nations in 1933. Four years later, a border incident touched off a full-scale war between Japan and China. Japanese forced swept into northern China. Beijing and other northern cities, as well as the capital, Nanjing, fell to the Japanese in 1937. Japanese troops killed tens of thousands of captured soldiers and civilians in Nanjing. Hitler put millions of Germans to work manufacturing weapons and serving in the military
In 1929 when the Great Depression struck, Japanese blamed the government. Military leaders gained support and soon won control of the country. this puts a lot of power in teh hands of the military leaders and goves them freedom to do what thye want with their weapons and armies
Leaders and Parties focused much more on their Military tactics, weapons and armies. Most common way to gain power was through imperialism. It made the country stronger because it provided more jobs, which in turn helped the economy grow, making the country as a whole successful. militarists were extreme nationalists. They wanted to to solve the country’s economic problems through foreign expansion.

In Stalin's purges of 1936 and 1937 tens of thousands of clergy were rounded up and shot. Under Khrushchev it became illegal to teach religion to your own children. From 1917 , the more religion persisted, the more the Soviets would seek new and inventive ways to eradicate it. (The guardian)
The Communist regime targeted religions based on State interests, and while most organised religions were never outlawed, religious property was confiscated, believers were harassed, and religion was ridiculed while atheism was propagated in schools. (religion in the Soviet Union )
Under Stalins rule, Communists worked to replace religious teachings with the ideals of communism. The Russian Orthodox Church was the main target of persecution.
Humans see a visual of a message that is trying to be portrayed, better understood, back in the people weren’t literate/didn’t read, they would get the message from pictures - pictures are a better way to see what is in front of us without having to put a lot of effort in

Hitler promoted his ideologies through varying types of propaganda. posters executed his views. to illustrate, one of the posters had a picture of a Jew sitting on the skulls of Christians. it was to depict that Jews harvest the blood of Christians with which to celebrate religious festivals year on year. Another poster depicted them in such a way that the main message was, Jews are lice; they cause typhus.

Nationalist narrative - this fantasy version of a country - need for a strong leader to return the country into greatness -

Give examples of man versus man conflict in the real world.

the Leaders make it seem like they are the ones who can single handedly bring back the country into greatness or they wanted to base their actions after older groups. For example, Benito Mussolini wanted to re-create the Roman Empire. He did this because the Roman Empire was powerful, due to its strong military tactics. Roman military helped to significantly expand the empire and land. Mussolini wanted to recreate this and by doing this, he united Italy under one cause. This culminated into the second world war because it made the Italians have very nationalist values and they were only centred on conquering and expanding land. *Important* notice that most Fascist leaders wanted to Unify thier country under one common goal. Mussolini wanted to unite Italy under the goal of conquering land, Hitler wanted to unite Germany under the goal of war and getting rid of the Jews. This "common goal" was ofter a huge cause of severe nationalism.
Truth is a lot more complex than something so simple that the fascist leader is offering the population.

The Nazis quickly took command of the economy. New lands banned strikes, dissolved independent labour unions, and gave the government authority over business and labour. Hitler put millions of Germans to work constructing factories, building highways, manufacturing weapons, and serving in the military. As a result, the number of unemployed dropped from about 6 to 1.5 million in 1936. The number of unemployed did drop later however, there is always another motive behind his actions. He was preparing them for war adn the holocaust that would later occur.
Often the problems in regard to the economy and the well being of the people were kind of dismissed by the leaders and they gave a very vague and oversimplified answer that did not work and would cause bigger problems in the long term. This was a huge way that lead Germany to gain power after the first world war. After the first war, the economy was in complete ruins adn there was little to no hope to going back to a normal life style. However they managed to go from facing the worst inflation to conquering Europe in just 20 years. Nazi's wanted to tackle the unemployment issue but in reality the next decade would see the expansion of Military under the guise of repairing the economy. They did this by using a few differnt tactics 1. instead of creating more jobs, couples were encouraged to get married through marriage loans and this removed women form the workforce. This removed pool of economically active people, thus creating an illusion of an esteemed workforce 2. Part-time workers, forced labourers and prisoners were counted as full time employees 3. many Jews were forced out of thier jobs and had their bushiness confiscated and given to non Jewish businessmen who were loyal to the Nazi party. These are a few tactics that were used to create a falsified image of an economic recovery. The part lied to the people and hid thier real intentions as to what they wanted to do.
