he base of support is a position you see high level athletes get into instinctively. something like i would do in sports

Greater stability is obtained if the base of support is widened in the direction of the line of force.

The base of support is the area around the outside edge of the sections of your body in contact with the ground and surface.

. Forces like compression and tension are always acting on structures. and pretty much, structures must be strong and stable.

It's shape size and the materials it is made of depends on the structure's function.
