The Characteristics of Life

Living organisms exhibit several fundamental characteristics essential for sustaining life. They reproduce through either sexual or asexual means, ensuring the continuation of their species.

The Characteristics of Life

Life

the prossession of all the characteristics such as organisation nutirition excretion response and reproduction

1. Organisation

living things are composed of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems.

cell- cheek cell

tissue- lining of cheek

organ-stomach

organ system- digestive system

organism- individual human

population- all the people living in one area

2. Nutrition

is the way organisms obtain and use food.
The sun is the basic source of energy for all nutrition.

plants use sunlight directly to make food.- Photosynthesis.

sun (energy)===> Plants (energy) ===>Animals

3. Excretion

is the removal of waste products of metabolism frorm the body.
in humans exretory structures are the skin, lungs and urinary system (kidneys and bladder).products exreted are carbon dioxide, salts and surplus water.
plants excrete waste gases through openings called stomata.

4. Response

the way in which all living things react to changes (stimuli) in their environment or surroundings.
ANIMALS- respond to stimuli such as light ,temperature, pressure, and sound
PLANTS- respond to water , light, gravity, touch and chemicals.

5. Reproduction

is the production of new individuals.
Sexual Reproduction- the union of sex cells (gametes) formed by two parents. male and female
Asexual Reprodution- involves simple organisms splitting into 2 or more identical offsprings.
