As its name says, no change is made, only the sentence is placed in quotation marks, this style is mostly used to narrate stories or legends
EXAMPLES
My uncle said, “I am going to Florida”. (Mi tío dijo, “Voy a Florida”)
She asked me, “Where are you going?” (Ella me preguntó, “¿A dónde vas?”)
My cousin said, “I am too tired”. (Mi primo dijo, “Estoy muy cansado”)
He said, “I like it very much. (Él dijo, “Me gusta mucho”)
This is mostly used to report or announce something, it is very common to see it in formal conversations.

She told me that she couldn’t finish her homework. (Ella me dijo que ella no podría terminar su tarea)
She told her that she will never speak to him again. (Ella le dijo que ella no volverá a hablar con él nunca)
He told us that he could not go to the party with her. (Él nos dijo que él no podría ir a la fiesta con ella)
