Archaeologists examine ancient sites and objects to learn about the past. They may specialise in particular geographical areas, historical periods or types of object, such as pottery, coins or bones.

Many people associate archaeologists with carrying out excavations, commonly called 'digs'. This work and the related recording, analysing and interpreting of archaeological remains, are only part of what some archaeologists do.

Wildlife biologists study genetic origins and life processes of animals. Many work as educators or field researchers. Prospective candidates may enter the field with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Wildlife Biology or a related undergraduate degree in an area such as biological science. Many positions require advanced degrees.

Industrial engineers manage and develop the human, technological, logistical, and materials resources of a production system with an emphasis on efficiency, productivity, and quality. Industrial engineers focus on problem solving, whether it's preparing for growth, performing cost analyses, establishing workplace safety procedures, supply chain management, or modification to the assembly line. While industrial engineers may be employed by either government agencies or private companies.

Medical doctors examine, diagnose and treat patients. They can specialize in a number of medical areas, such as pediatrics, anesthesiology or cardiology, or they can work as general practice physicians. Becoming a medical doctor requires earning a doctoral degree in medicine and participating in clinical rotations. It's also common for medical school graduates to enroll in a residency program to study a specialty. Medical doctors need state licensure, and certification may also be required for some specialists.

Degree programs in general business administration can lead to a bachelor's degree or master's degree. Students studying general business administration learn about ethical and global issues, government regulations and business processes, as well as how demographics affect organizations. Completion of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program can also be beneficial in terms of advancement and promotion to leadership positions. Business administration programs may also include concentrations in areas such as finance, marketing and business law

Professionalism

It is of the utmost importance that you behave professionally in all your conduct. Your medical education will probably involve a discussion about what professionalism means and what you need to do in practice, but there are a couple of key concepts which are universal.

Empathy

Research has shown that patients who feel that their doctor has made a genuine empathetic connection - an attempt to understand how they feel and how their condition is affecting their everyday life - will actually experience a reduction in pain.

Patience

Some doctors will try to get as many patients through their door as possible. They will rush appointments and make quick decisions. This is often because they are trying to reach targets or avoid long queues in their waiting room, but it's not always best for the patients.

Up to date

The medicine industry is changing all the time and it's important that you are prepared to keep up to date with new findings, innovative research and emerging theories at all times.
Even once you have graduated, you shouldn't stop learning.

Not squeamish

Medical professionals work with the human body every day. It isn't always pleasant and sometimes it can be quite gruesome. This is especially true for medics working in an accident and emergency ward or surgeons working in an operating theatre.

Hard working

People always need health care; no matter what time of the day or what day of the year, someone will need medical attention. Working in the medical profession often means working long hours, weekends and holidays. You are going to have to work extremely hard.
