How to formulate the Past Simple
Regular verbs
Add -ed / -ied to the root form of the verb
Listened - Pushed - Carried - Studied
Add only -d if the root form ends in an "e"
Loved - Typed
Verbs that end with
vowel + consonant = double the last consonant of the word.
Add -ed
Stop - Stopped
Skip - Skipped
Irregular verbs
Some irregular verbs look exactly like the root form
Put/Put - Hit/Hit - Cut/Cut
Some irregular verbs, including the verb "to be", have past forms that are different from the root form
See/Saw - Build/Built - Go/Went - Do/Did
