His music

His single "Poi E" became New Zealand's number one hit in 1984, making Maori funk music attractive to all cultures, not only to Maori.

His aim was to provide Maori communities our own pop idols, like Maori Motown, by starting Maui Records.

He entered a talent quest, won the talent quest and went on tour in Australasia.

He was invited to sing to the king of Thailand in 1996.

He set up a band that my mother was involved in and set them up to go on tour, being the opening act for The Platters in the 80's touring New Zealand.

His music had taken him all over the world

He had been to many different countries performing, working on radio stations, helping to set up radio stations, working with other artists, forming bands and setting up tours to name a few of the things he had accomplished throughout his life.

He wanted to make a change for Maori people, particularly in Patea, South of Taranaki. Because after the freezing works had closed down in the 80's there was lack of employment and he had voiced his opinions about unemployment in his home town, also speaking for all Maori.

He toured with Tina Turner, Renee Geyer, The Pointer Sisters and The Platters just to name a few.

He learned to write Maori songs over the East Coast of New Zealand.

Learned to write songs in Te Reo Maori.

Ngoi Pewhairangi taught him all he had learned about Te Reo Maori, together they composed beautifully written songs with catchy tunes that became very popular.
