Computer History Timeline

Tabulator Machine

1890

It was an electrical machine that
was designed to assist summarizing
information store on punch cards.

Herman Hollerith

His company developed into the
IBM.

Java

1936

Java Programming was created because
James Gosling wanted to create a new language
that would allow consumer electronic devices to
communicate with each other.

James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, Patrick Naughton

The significance was that it
allowed developers to write code
that could run on any device. Regardless
of how it was created.

It was made Sun Microsystems, Inc. Where
Gosling led a team to create a new language for
computers.

Turing Machine

1936

It was a machine that a mathematician made.
This machine may look simple but is quite
complicated. It can simulate any algorithm
no matter how hard it is.

Alan Turing created the Turing Machine.

It was one of the most formal machines for
it's time in computer science.

A-O System

1958

The Adaptive Optics are used to improve
the performance of optical systems.

Grace Murray Hopper created the A-O system

This is great for wave front distortions
imaging and beam shaping in non-imaging
applications.

Watson

1961

Watson was created as a question answering (QA) computing system that IBM built to apply advanced natural language processing, information retrieval, knowledge representation, automated reasoning, and machine learning technologies to the field of open domain question answering.

Watson is so important is because IBM has opened Watson to businesses and developers. IBM opened up Watson application programming interfaces in 2015, allowing developers to use the cloud-based artificial intelligence system with their own programs.

Microsoft

Developed the majority of new personal computers.Made a Pc that is compatible with most software programs.

Microsoft Created by Bill Gates

1975

Apple

Apple Company, inc. was founded on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Their goal was to make personal computing accessible to each and every individual and to make computers small enough for people's homes and offices.

It is important for computer history because
the company was one of the first to make
touchscreen devices. This was a big step
because previously they only had flip phones.

Html

1989

Creates electronic documents called pages
that are displayed on the World Wide Web.
Each page contains information through hyperlinks.

Tim Burners Lee

It is used because without it the
browser would not know how to
show text as elements or load images.

He was a contractor for CERN and created
a prototype system that could share
documents.

Kasparov vs. Deep Blue

1997

Deep blue was the creation of IBM
it was a supercomputer and they wanted
to test it out by putting it against the
chess champion. It was made to predict
human moves which was hard because
we are pretty unpredictable.

It was created by IBM.

This was a significance because
IBM invented a machine that could
predict the unpredictable human mind.

If they didn't create Deep Blue then
games such as chess would be easy to
play on the computer because they
wouldn't be able to predict your moves.
Or what you're thinking.

Google

1998

It was originally used at Stanford for many years.
Google is a website that has links to things that
you may have questions on.

Sergey Brin and Larry Page created Google

If we didn't have google we would have
a lot of unanswered questions. And people
wouldn't have the knowledge that we have
today because people wouldn't have the
research to their questions.
