Entertainment

IS Course: MUG 282- Guitar Techniques II
In this course, I developed my guitar skills further than what I had known before. I have always played guitar since I was 12 years old. I taught myself everything I knew, once I took this course, my guitar skills took off. When I learned how to finger-pick on the guitar, I was able to play a wide range of music. I played for audiences on the guitar many times after learning the skills from my guitar techniques course.
Many musicians play the guitar, it is almost a second nature for them. Acoustic music is in the folk genre which serves to a large group of people. Many people enjoy folk music, rock music, and other genres that are heavy in guitar.

Exercise

IS Course: MUG 232- Piano Class IV
In this course, I learned how to play the piano in improvisational ways. One of the most important things we learned was the ability to match how we play music to match peoples moods. Matching music to fit their emotions, such as exercise music that is upbeat and gets your adrenaline going, is how music is commonly used in peoples daily lives.
People listen to music when they exercise to keep their adrenaline going. When I talked to people to get their opinion on music in their daily lives, a majority of people said they use it to work out. It is one of the most popular ways music is used every day.

Therapy

IS Course: MTR 204- Percussion for music therapy
Personal Experience: Learning the percussion instruments that I was lucky enough to get my hands on helped me relax. For example, in this course, I got to learn how to play the African Hand drum. When playing this drum, it requires the upper body to relax and just fall into a rhythm. I found this to be very therapeutic, I could almost fall asleep playing the drum.
Example: Clients who live with diseases or other things that prevent them from being able to sit steady may find percussion instruments, such as the drum, easy to play. In MTR, we worked directly with clients who used percussion in their therapy sessions to keep a beat, or create a beat (innovation helps a busy mind).
