The Author of this story is Shirley Jackson. she was an American author best known for her horror and mystery novels. She wrote six novels, two memoirs, and more than 200 short pieces over her two-decade writing career.

At the end of the story, when she is unmasked as the author of the poison pen letters, she receives her own letter—telling her that her roses have been destroyed. As she reads the letter, she begins to “cry silently for the wickedness of the world.”
