Story is an ok read, ideas tend to be repetitive. Also the ending of the story is slightly confusing, reader must analyze further to understand what is occurring in the story. However the author does a good job using the literary device of characterization, through describing characters.

Jean-Paul rates "The Necklace"

What shocks me most about this short story is how the women is under-appreciative of those around her like, friends and her husband. It's ridiculous how the women values materialistic items, like jewelry, instead of family.

Author portrays the women as being very unhappy throughout the most of the story, until, the women finds a diamond necklace in a black satin box

About a women who is constantly depressed and sad because she does not have all these materialistic things she wishes she could have.

One element of the story that startled me is how the villagers react to Michael's attempts to change the school. While reading this story it amazes me how when ones wants to make change for the better, people still want to prevent change and also ridicule those who are trying to make a change.

What surprised me while reading this short story is the amount of evil a human being can possess. The mad man is pure evil and what shocks me even more is how the madman believes initially that he is not a madman and that he is perfectly normal.

Jean-Paul rates "Dead Men's Path"

Overall this book is a very interesting read, I like how the author gives the reader a first perspective from the young boys point of view. This allows the reader to feel first hand the emotions and obstacles the young boy faces.

The author does a good job delivering the message of the story to the reader, which is that people should allow different traditions and customs to exist. I like this story as I can relate on a personal level as I try to be a leader and do what I think is right similar to Michael and not do what everyone wants me to do. The author also does a great job connecting his ideas, overall this is a good read.

Michael intends to rectify the school and demonstrate to the previous owners of the school how the secondary school should run.

The main character, Micheal Obi becomes the headmaster of a secondary school in the village of Ndume.

Jean-Paul rates "The Tell-Tale Heart"

This story is an decent read, at times it is confusing to understand the plot of the story. The narration is slightly confusing but allows the reader to connect what happens at the end of the story.

The story develops as the narrator known as the"mad man" becomes filled with evil and decides he wants to kill an old man as he wants to separate the man from his "Evil Eye" to save him from the burden of guilt it causes.

The story ends with the narrator's paranoia and madness causing him to mistake his own heartbeat for the old man's, leading to the murder of the old man and the confession of the murder he commits to the police.

An unnamed narrator addresses to the reader that he is a man who tends to be nervous and that people often mistake him for being a mad man, but he believes otherwise.

Jean-Paul rates "John Reunion"

This story is about a young man who meets with his father for the first time after several years of living his life with his father abandoning him. One major element that startled me while reading this story is that the young man is not angry at his father for leaving him all those years. The young boy instead rejoices as he sees his father, which is something I did not expect the boy would do at all.
