Thesis statement

From a feminist perspective, the movie Jane Eyre (1997) expresses the inequality and gender conflict suffered by women.

firstly, Jane Eyre lives at the bottom of an oppressed society, but she wants to pursue a free and equal life;

secondly, Jane Eyre dared to confront prejudice in her love experience;

thirdly, in the end, Jane Eyre and her husband build a relationship which is based on mutual understanding and respect.

The protagonist Jane Eyre has a rough life experience, which also makes her a woman who pursues freedom, dares to fight against injustice and appeals for female independence.An antagonist is Mrs. Reed, she is a false and unfair person. Mrs. Reed is kind to her children, but she is jealous of her husband's care for the orphaned Jane, and even lies to John Eyre just to take away Jane's inheritance.

Sestting

This story set in the 19th century, when women lost their right to speak and lived under the rule of male power.

Theme

The theme of Jane Eyre is to researching freedom and equal love.

Plot

inciting incident

The instigation event was that Jane was sent to Lowood Girls' School by her aunt, where Jane felt the darkness and inequality of the society. At the same time, After Jane graduated from the school, she insisted on her independent thinking and looked for a freedom.

Climax

The climax of the film is when St. John Rivers proposes to Jane for the second time, asking her to accompany him to India as his wife and fellow missionary. Jane considered proposing, even though she knew that marrying St John would mean the end of her love life.

Conflict

The main type of conflict in the movie is person VS socity.

Resolution

Jane returned to Thornfield and found it burnt to the ground. She learned that Bertha Mason had set the fire and died in the flames. Jane finds him, reestablishes her relationship with Rochester, and marries him. At last Jane and Rochester live an equal and happy life.

Inequality

Jane Eyre in foster aunt's home, but has been subjected to discrimination, until she was sent to Lowood girls' school. At school, she was also subjected to unequal treaties.

Jane Eyre because of resistance cousin beat, was locked in the red-room.

Mrs. Reed prefers boys to girls, even though her son is violent and unreasonable and hates Jane eyre's spirit of resistance.

Patriarchy

St. John tries to use money and status to buy Jane's love

St. John thinks Jane eyre can bring better help to his career, he thinks that women are just appendages to work. He did not consider that Jane eyre wanted a sincere and equal relationship.

Mr. Brocklehurst roughly questions Jane about religion, and when Jane tells him frankly that she finds the chants boring, he feel angry, because he thought Jane Eyre had challenged his thinking.

Brocklehurst asked Jane to cut Helen's hair just because Helen wasn't wearing a hat.

When Jane knows that Rochester is actually married, she decides to leave him. But Rochester try to prevent Jane eyre from leaving.

Rochester tries to use language to control Jane eyre, too close to Jane Eyre, can only make Jane feel uneasy.

From my point of view, I agree with Jane Eyre's view of love and the accusation of female oppression. In life, I sometimes feel inferiority. But my parents taught me to be independent and encouraged me to fight for my own rights, which made me learn to be confident and have the courage to be myself.
