The Generations of Computers - Mind Map

The Generations of Computers

Each one of the five generations of computers is characterized by a major technological development that fundamentally changed the way computers operate

The first computer systems  they used vacuum tubes for circuits and magnetic drums for memory.
they were huge, they took up whole rooms

The transistor was invented at Bell Laboratories in 1947, but did not have widespread use in computers until the late 1950s.
The transistor was far superior to the vacuum tube, allowing computers to become smaller, faster, cheaper, and more efficient.

integrated circuit was the hallmark of the third generation of computers
The transistors were miniaturized and placed on silicon chips
Thus increased the speed and efficiency of computers

The microprocessor brought the fourth generation of computers, as thousands of integrated circuits were built on a single silicon chip.
What in the first generation filled an entire room could now fit in the palm of your hand.

These artificial intelligence based computing devices are still under development,
there are some apps like voice recognition that are currently used
The goal of fifth generation computing is to develop devices that respond to the input of natural language and are capable of learning and self-organizing
