How can we predict the movement of an object in one dimension?
What is the relationship between displacement and motion?
You need to have displacement to have motion
An object is in motion if it changes position in relation to a certain place
One dimensional motion takes place in one direction
The formula for displacement is △x=xf-xi
The formula for speed is Speed=distance/time
Connection-I can connect to this when I am walking and I forget something and have to go back to get it
Vocab
Initial reference- the starting point of an object that has experienced motion
Displacement- the length of a straight line from an object’s initial position to its final position
Speed- a measure of distance traveled over a period of time
What is the relationship between velocity and acceleration?
You need velocity to have acceleration
Acceleration occurs when there’s an increase in speed, a decrease in speed, or a change in direction
When graphing data, position should be on the y-axis and time should be on the x-axis
Position vs. time graphs can be used to find speed and compare speeds
Connection- A connection is when hen we did the position vs. time graphs
Vocab
Velocity- speed in a given direction
Acceleration- change in velocity
Why do two objects released at the same time and height hit the ground at the same time?
Two objects released at the same time and height hit the ground at the same time because they have constant acceleration
Acceleration of gravity is always -9.8 m/s2
At the peak the velocity is zero
When an object is thrown up is has positive velocity, then the object slows down and it reaches a momentary stopping point. Then, it has negative velocity and negative acceleration. Finally, the object speeds up
Connection- When we watched the video of a feather and a bowling ball and they hit the ground at the same time
