Job is an "upright and blameless" man who turns away from evil and fears God. Job is faithful to God no matter what his circumstances are. Job has a wife, seven sons and three daughters. He also has numerous farm animals and land.

Job is the protagonist in the story because he is the one who is faced with adversity and has everything taken away from him. He is faced with turning against God or praising him during his time of adversity. He chooses to praise God and falls to his knees and prays to him. Job could easily blame God for what has happened to him but he doesn't and God blesses him in the end of the story. “And when the days of the feast had run their course, Job would send and consecrate them (his kids), and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all.  For Job said, ‘It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.’  Thus Job did continually.”

Job is a static character because no matter how much suffering he goes through, his faith in God never changes. His own wife tells him to curse die but he doesn't. He is loyal to God and even falls to his knees and praises him."The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."

Conflict

The conflict Job has to endure and suffer through are from external forces. It is God who allows the devil to test Job's faith. The devil takes everything away from Job, even his children and his wife. He also inflicts him with sores all over his body. The devil is determined to turn Job against God but it does not work. “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshipped.”

Gilgamesh from the "Epic of Gilgamesh," is the King of Uruk and is two-thirds God and one-third mortal. He is a fierce warrior who is perfectly made with great strength. "He walks around in the enclosure of Uruk,like a wild bull he makes himself mighty, head raised.There is no rival who can raise his weapon against him."

Gilgamesh was a selfish man who thought he could have any woman that he desired, even if they were married. He would even rape women if they were unwilling to have sex with him."Come, Shamhat, take me away with youto the sacred Holy Temple, the residence of Anu and Ishtar,the place of Gilgamesh, who is wise to perfection,but who struts his power over the people like a wild bull."

Gilgamesh is the protagonist in the "The Epic of Gilgamesh." He is a selfish and arrogant man who only thinks of himself. He meets Enkidu, and they form a relationship. When Enkidu suddenly dies, it forces Gilgamesh to change his ways. This allows him to grow and he finally learns from all of his mistakes. "In the beginning of the book, Gilgamesh appears to be selfish. Gilgamesh's "arrogance has no bounds by day or night". Even though he is created by the Gods to be perfect, he misuses his powers and gifts for his own earthly pleasure."

Gilgamesh is a dynamic character because he endures human suffering, but it is through his journey and his own actions that cause his suffering. This eventually leads to his own self discovery."He saw the Secret, discovered the Hidden,he brought information of (the time) before the Flood.He went on a distant journey, pushing himself to exhaustion,but then was brought to peace."

Conflict

The conflict that Gilgamesh endures is definitely from internal forces. He is a selfish man who thinks he can have everything his way. After his friend Enkidu dies, he goes on a quest for immortality so he can live forever. "Who, my friend, can ascend to the heavensOnly the gods can dwell forever with Shamash. As for human beings, their days are numbered, and whatever they keep trying to achieve is but wind! Now you are afraid of death."
