Who was he?

Born 1564-1642, Italian, born in Pisa, an important thinker and had problems with the roman catholic church

In 1589, he became a professor of mathematics at the university of Pisa

In 1592, he took a position as a professor of mathematics and natural philosophy at the university of Padua

From 1592-1610, he worked in Padua and Venice

From 1610-1632, he was appointed to a position and court philosopher by the ruler of Florence

In 1633, he was condemned by the holy Inquisition of the roman catholic church

1642, he dies at his villa near Florence

What makes him great?

Changed the way people think in the world at his time about the universe

He is simply the most famous marter of science

What makes him a great scientist?

In November 1609, he devloped the telescope and used it to discover new things in the sky

Between 1590 and 1610, he tested and verified a set of mathemetical formula establishing relationship between a motion of object, time and distance

What is the science Galileo did and why is what Galileo did science?

First: observe something in nature and come up with a hypothesis

Second: come up with a way to test the observation

Galileo believes that there is no much difference between his sicence and other sciences ex: theology, philosophy
