Student Voice

Voicethread

VoiceThread is a learning tool for enhancing student engagement and online presence. Eucators and students can create, post, and comment on images, videos, audio files, documents. User can post by using device microphones, webcam, text and phone.

Instructional Idea: Students were asked to make their first voicethread following the examples that were given. They had to pretend they were youth ambassadors for their city/school and welcome exchange students in Spanish.

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a new classroom application that facilitates video conversations. Instructors post a prompt that can contain links, videos and text support features and users are invited to post a reply video to get the conversation going.

Instructional Activity: Students were doing their first flipgrid. It was a simple activity where they were asked to introduce themselves in and share thoughts on distance learning.

Padlet

Padlet is a web-based tool that can be used to create online bulletin boards where users collaborate by posting links, videos, text, audio clips among other forms of contribution.

Instructional Idea: Students will respond to the following prompt. Your mental and physical health are equally important. What have you been doing to stay physically and mentally fit? Post a picture, video or drawing to our padlet page. I have given you a few ideas with a prompt and have also posted a video. REMEMBER to write your name, use SPANISH captions in photo or SPEAK in Spanish in your video. Refer to our vocabulary terms that we have been practicing this week

Assessment

In the conclusion you should have a brief summary of your key points.

Quizlet

Quizlet is a study based online platform that allows students to study and review material through the use of learning tools and games.

Instructional Idea:The link provided takes users to a set of vocabulary words that students will be using for our present unit. Students need to focus on on a week and pracitce the learning tools. I recommend they do it in the order learn, write spell and then the games.

Kahoot

Kahoot is an online game-based learning platform that has free and subscription accounts. You can use any device to access the platform on the web or through the app. It has engaging quiz styled layout whose questions are user generated.

Instructional Idea: At the end of a unit students challenge each other other by setting a high score. They can play multiple times and at their own pace. Click the link to test your knowledge of introductory Spanish greetings terms.

Video Conferencing

Googl Meet

Google meet is another video conferencing app. I have included them in my arsenal of tools because it integrates well with G Suite for education do its easy to set up quick small group sessions with students.

Instructional Idea: While i use zoom or blackboard collaborate to host sessions with larger groups of students, I rely on google meet for small break out or 1-on-1 sessions. I find it is easier to connect with students /parents that are already linked to my google classrooms.

Zoom/Blackboard Collaborate

Zoom is a cloud based video-conferencing platform that has become the industry standard for schools during the ongoing pandemic. I like it for its ease of use, screen-sharing capabilities and host controls.

Instructional Idea: I use zoom or blackboard collaborate to do face to face touch points with my students weekly. Students respond to a previously posted prompt in preparation for the lesson and then they share out once we have logged in.

Organization & teacher curation

The key points are the arguments which will support your thesis. These can be agreeing arguments or disagreeing arguments too, in each case they need to reflect on the main idea.

Google Classrooms

Google Classroom has become my most frequently used tool. It is a cloud based tool geared towards streamlining the file sharing process between teachers and students. I was not able to add a screenshot of my google classrooms page because you need a premium account to do so. Instead I have put a link that you can use to access a mock page with a google account. I have provided a class code as well.

Thinglink

Thinglink is a free and user friendly tool that allows users to take any image or video and turn it into an interactive tool by overlaying it with active links. The video/image augmentation capabilities of this tool are robust and affords the user endless curation possibilities.

Instructional idea: This unit combined a number of additional tools by housing them all in one place. This was my first attempt at curating a lesson with Thinglink. Students were asked to play the role of a youth ambassador and welcome new exchnage students to a Colombian city of their choice.

Collaboration

Twiddla

Twiddla is an online interactive whiteboard that facilitates real-time collaboration between instructors and students. Many teachers have said that its like placing whiteboard skin over any document, PDF or website upon which you can annotate with the available writing tools.

Instructional Idea:As a part of a group liaison team students had to brainstorm and add ideas for an itinerary of events to welcome new Spanish-speaking students to their city. See attached link.

Google docs

Google docs is a lite word processing tool that allows users to share and edit documents easily.

Instructional Idea: For my younger elementary learners they were placed in groups and asked to complete 4 items from the choiceboard that they would later have the option of sharing in our zoom/blackboard collaborate session.

Twitter

Twitter was the last tool I thought I would be using for instructional purposes. It is a social media app that allows users to send short posts, called tweets, of no more than 140 characters. Twitter is great for collaboration with other professionals among other things.

Instructional Tool: I havent fully come around to using this tool and making it my own but I plan on joining up with a group for one of those live session where professionals share resources by tweeting at a scheduled time using a preset hashtag. However i doubt I will be using this for a class twitter account right now.
