- Due to the pandemic, Singaporeans are encouraged to practice social distancing and large group gathering are forbidden. - This means that they are unable to meet with their friends and family often, as compared to last time. - youths may be unable to visit their relative living overseas - This can lead to the feeling of Sadness and lonliness. - On top of that, the pandemic can cause youths to have a sense of fear due to the uncertainty. - A study by IMH, found that anxiety and Depression in youths has rose by 20% since the pandemic
Stigma of addressing mental health
- In Asia, there is honour, pride and collectivism between families - illness such as mental illness will be seen as a shameful thing for the family - lead to them not wanting to seek help in fear of embarrassment for their family - Lead to their condition deteriorating - A study shows that 44.5% of people surveyed linked mental illness with mean words
Lack of Jobs in the Job market
- Due to globalisation, the world is more connected to each other - this creates a market, where foreign labors are able to come to Singapore to look for a job due to the attractive benefits - This creates a higher demand in the job market - Causes fear that Youths will be unable to find a high paying job in the future

-mental health treatment is a long process as results take time - one session can cost about $50 at government hospital, or up to $200 at private clinics - Multiple consults are required to fully recover from mental health illness -With multiple consults, the person will have to pay more leading to them not seeking help
Social media
-Social media allows hurt messages to be spread very quickly with the benefit of anonymity -This promotes cyberbullying as the bully's identity is concealed -Victims of cyberbullying are likely to suffer from depression, anxiety and other illness
-Social media allows youth to curate their life, showing only the highlights of their life, and not their daily struggles and ordinary things in life - This creates an expectation that they are to look perfect to match their peers - Causes youth to feel inferior to their peers -lead to youth feeling their own lives are inadequate to others

Academic stress
-In Singapore System, in order to get a good paying job Youths have the mindset that they must get into University and graduate, rather than just a Diploma - In order to get into university, Youths will be forced to study (whether they like it or not), just to get the good Grade to be eligible to study in a University to get a degree, getting them a good job in the future
-In singapore, students are stressed about academic achievements - Possible reason is due to the meritocracy system, where each child is rewarded based on their academic achievements - lead to a competitive culture in schools as all are striving to be the best amongst their peers

Family problems
-In 2022, there was over 7000+ divorces in Singapore - The process of divorce can cause youths to be stressed - The youths often experience sudden physical, emotional, mental and social changes in their life - This can cause their mental health to be affected
parent's expectation
-In Singapore, parents set high expectations for their child - Parents would compare their child to another child to provide them with motivation to do well - Parents are also afraid that their child will lose to others academically -leads to parents finding ways to keep their child ahead of their peers - This causes the child to develop a fear of failure, taking a toll on their mental health
